Q-Step Program – for low income students |
If you come from a low income background and would like to undertake one of QUT's undergraduate courses, you may be eligible for assistance through the University's special entry program, Q-Step. Q-Step eligible applicants may receive admission bonuses of up to three (3) OP bands or six (6) ranks for entry to most undergraduate degree courses at QUT. Q-Step has assisted over 2500 students since it commenced in 1992, and now Q-Step students are enrolled in all faculties of QUT covering most undergraduate courses. Q-Step students who receive a mid-year offer at QUT will also receive a $500 starter bursary (available in week 1) to assist with education costs plus you are guaranteed one of the following scholarships or bursaries*:
* You will need to submit an online scholarship application through the QTAC (Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre) website to determine which scholarship you will receive. Allocations are dependent on eligibility criteria and your degree of financial need and are not dependent on academic results. Indigenous students who are entering a university course for the first time may receive a one-off Indigenous Access Scholarship of over $4000. Eligible students who do not lodge a scholarship application, or commence studies mid-year, will be allocated a QUT Equity Bursary as well as the QUT starter bursary. Visit the QUT Equity financial support for students webpage or phone (07) 3138 5886 for further information about these scholarships. For any enquiries regarding Q-Step please phone (07) 3138 3731 or (07) 3138 9675. Note: The closing date to submit a Q-Step Application is Friday 31 October 2008. real experiences
It was not easy getting into uni and I had to work hard to get a good OP. Because I'm from a low income family, the Q-Step program helped me gain admission into my course through an admission bonus on my OP, but it still comes down to me putting in the work. Tommy Pham |
